Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Approach (PMRI) on the mathematical problem-solving ability of fifth-grade students at SD Xaverius 3 Palembang in the topic of solid geometry. The research method used is quantitative with a True Experimental Design approach. The study subjects consisted of two classes: the experimental class, which applied the PMRI approach, and the control class, which used conventional methods. Data collection techniques included tests, observations, and documentation, which were analyzed using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test with the assistance of SPSS. The results showed that the Asymp.sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.001 < 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the hypothesis is accepted. Since there is a significant difference, it can be stated that PMRI has an effect on the mathematical problem-solving ability of fifth-grade students in solid geometry. Therefore, there is a difference in mathematics learning outcomes between class VA and VB. Based on these findings, educators are encouraged to implement the PMRI approach in mathematics learning, particularly in solid geometry topics. By utilizing concrete media and real-world contexts, students can more easily understand the taught concepts and enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
