Abstract

Cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality among women in Indonesia and is associated with significant psychosocial challenges that may affect treatment adherence and quality of life. However, evidence describing domain-specific psychosocial problems among cervical cancer patients in regional healthcare settings remains limited. This study aimed to examine the psychosocial profile of cervical cancer patients, with a particular focus on identifying dominant problem domains. This study employed a quantitative descriptive design involving 71 cervical cancer patients undergoing outpatient treatment at a regional hospital in Indonesia. The study was conducted from December 2025 to February 2026 (9 weeks). Data were collected using the Psychosocial Distress Questionnaire–Breast Cancer (PDQ-BC), which assesses nine domains of psychosocial problems, including trait anxiety, state anxiety, depressive symptoms, social problems, and social support. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that trait anxiety was the most dominant psychosocial problem, affecting 52.1% of patients. In contrast, most patients did not experience significant problems in other domains, including social support (100%), social problems (97.2%), and depressive symptoms (67.6%). These findings suggest that persistent anxiety represents a critical psychosocial concern among cervical cancer patients, even when other domains appear relatively adaptive. Contextual factors such as strong social support and healthcare coverage may contribute to lower levels of situational distress. In conclusion, routine psychosocial screening, particularly for trait anxiety, is essential in oncology nursing practice to enable early identification and targeted interventions aimed at improving patients’ psychological well-being and overall quality of care.
