Abstract

Reproductive health problems commonly experienced by adolescent females include menstrual disorders such as dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea refers to menstrual pain that is often accompanied by cramps centered in the lower abdomen and radiating to the back and inner thighs. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleep quality, stress, and physical activity and the incidence of dysmenorrhea among undergraduate midwifery students at Kader Bangsa University, Palembang, in 2025. This quantitative research employed an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted in July 2025 at Kader Bangsa University. The study population consisted of all sixth- and eighth-semester undergraduate midwifery students, totaling 53 respondents selected through total sampling. Primary data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Univariate analysis showed that among the 53 respondents, 21 (39.6%) experienced mild dysmenorrhea, 16 (30.2%) experienced moderate dysmenorrhea, and 16 (30.2%) experienced severe dysmenorrhea. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test revealed that sleep quality had a p-value of 0.004, stress had a p-value of 0.464, and physical activity had a p-value of 0.002. These results indicated a significant correlation between sleep quality and physical activity with the incidence of dysmenorrhea, while stress was not significantly associated. This study is expected to serve as a reference for reproductive health education regarding factors influencing dysmenorrhea. Furthermore, it may provide a basis for implementing reproductive health counseling programs for adolescents, particularly on dysmenorrhea and other contributing factors.
