Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is very important for babies aged 0-6 months because it helps their growth and development and boosts their immune system. One of the reasons for the failure of exclusive breastfeeding is working mothers and the promotion of health regarding exclusive breastfeeding. This study aims to investigate the relationship between employment and exclusive breastfeeding among infants aged 6–24 months, as well as the relationship between health promotion and exclusive breastfeeding among infants aged 6–24 months in Kebun Baru Village, Wih Pesam Subdistrict, Bener Meriah District. This study is analytical in nature with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was mothers with infants aged 6–24 months. The sample size was 62 participants, selected using total sampling. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. The results showed no association between employment and exclusive breastfeeding among infants aged 6–24 months (p = 0.935). There was no association between health promotion and exclusive breastfeeding among infants aged 6–24 months (p = 0.566). The conclusion is that employment does not influence exclusive breastfeeding, and health promotion does not influence exclusive breastfeeding because respondents who had received health promotion about exclusive breastfeeding did not apply exclusive breastfeeding to their infants. It is hoped that the results of this study will be beneficial for breastfeeding mothers, researchers, and relevant government agencies, as well as health centers and health promotion officers, so that they can improve and provide health promotion about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding
