Abstract

Quality nursing care is an important factor in determining the level of patient satisfaction, especially in surgical services. Nurses as the frontline have a significant role in ensuring patient safety. The Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) is a standard instrument developed to improve safety and minimize the risk of complications during surgical procedures. This study aims to determine the role of the surgical safety checklist in improving safety and patient satisfaction levels at the Central Surgical Installation of RSI Aisyiyah Malang. This study used a cross-sectional design with an accidental sampling technique. The number of respondents was 58 patients who underwent surgery during the period of February 3 to March 3, 2025, and had met the inclusion criteria. The independent variable was the implementation of the SSC, while the dependent variables included patient safety and satisfaction. Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately using the Spearman correlation test. There was a significant relationship between the implementation of the SSC and patient safety (r = 0.472) and patient satisfaction (r = 0.620) with a significance value (p = 0.000) for both. This indicates a moderate correlation with patient safety and a strong correlation with patient satisfaction. Surgical safety checklists play a crucial role in improving patient safety and satisfaction during surgical procedures. Consistent and comprehensive implementation is highly recommended as part of efforts to improve the quality of surgical services.
