Toddlers are a highly vulnerable age group to nutritional problems, particularly stunting. In 2024, the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia reached 19.8%, which has an impact on children’s physical growth and cognitive development. Nutritional intake fulfillment, household food security, and environmental conditions, especially flood-prone areas, are important factors influencing the nutritional status of toddlers. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design involving 50 respondents who met the criteria of toddlers aged 1–5 years. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and bivariately using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between household food security and toddlers’ nutritional status based on the height-for-age index (TB/U). Household food security was measured using a questionnaire. The results showed that male toddlers accounted for 25% and female toddlers also accounted for 25%. Based on the height-for-age index, most toddlers had normal nutritional status or were not stunted, accounting for 50%, while no toddlers were categorized as stunted or severely stunted. Parental characteristics indicated that most mothers were aged 24–36 years (30%), unemployed (35%), and had higher education levels (45%). Meanwhile, almost all fathers were employed (49%) and had higher education levels (45%). The Chi-Square test results showed a p-value of 1.000, indicating no significant relationship between household food security and toddlers’ nutritional status. Nevertheless, cross-tabulation analysis indicated a tendency that lower household food security was associated with a higher proportion of stunted toddlers. However, family economic conditions still play an important role in determining household food security in the flood-prone area of Perumahan Simalingkar, Medan.
