Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated uric acid levels in blood. Torch ginger flower (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M Sm) contains flavonoids that may inhibit xanthine oxidase activity and reduce uric acid formation. Thisstudy aimed to evaluate the antihyperuricemic potential of ethanol extract of torch ginger flower in male rats induced with pottasium oxonate and chicken liver juice. A completely randomized design was conducted using 25 male wistar rats divided into five groups ; negative control (Tween 80 1%), positive control (allopurinol 9 mg /kgBW), and treatment groups receiving ethanolextract at doses 100, 200, and 400 mg/ kg BW. Hyperuricemia was induced by intraperitoneal  administration of pottasium oxonate for three days followed by oral administration of chicken liver juice for seven days. After induced, treatmentswere adminestered for14 days.Uric acid levels measured using an       Easy touch® GCU device. The results showed that the extract reduce uric acid levels in all treatment groups. Percentage reductions at doses 100, 200, and 400 mg / kgBE were 36,05%, 44,03% and 35,85%, respectively, while allopurinol reduced uric acid levels by 42,98%. Statistical analysis demonstrade significant differences compared with negative control group (p<0,05). This findings indicate that ethanol extract of torch ginger flower possesses antihyperuricemic activity observed potential, with the greatest activity observed at dose of 200 mg/kgBW.
