Abstract

A family toilet is a building used to dispose of feces or human waste or filth for a family which is commonly called a toilet or WC. Good maintenance of a healthy family toilet is that the toilet floor should always be clean and there is no standing water, clean the toilet regularly so that the toilet room is always clean, there is no visible dirt inside the toilet, there are no insects (cockroaches, flies) and rats running around, cleaning tools are available and if there is damage it is immediately repaired. One of the risk factors for diarrhea that is often studied is environmental factors which include Clean Water Facilities (SAB), sanitation, toilets, Wastewater Drains (SPAL), bacteriological quality of water and house conditions. The purpose of this study was to determine the "Relationship between the Use of Family Latrines and the Incidence of Diarrhea in Bener Kelipah Village, Bener Meriah Regency. The population in this study was 173 respondents with a sample of 63 people. The sampling technique was random sampling. This study was analytical with a cross-sectional design. Statistical tests used the chi-square test. Data collection can be done using a questionnaire with observation and direct interviews with the community. This study was conducted in December 2023 for 1 week. The results of statistical analysis using the chi-square test obtained a p value = 0.004 <0.05, so Ha was accepted, this shows that there is a relationship between family latrines and the incidence of diarrhea. It is recommended to pay attention to basic sanitation, especially the condition of family latrines, which should have sufficient water and hand washing soap, maintaining their cleanliness. In handling waste processing from the latrines, a septic tank should be used which is 10 meters from the well. And the community is advised to change behavior towards a better direction and be willing to make efforts to improve family latrines sanitation so as not to experience diarrhea again.
