The kidneys are organs that function to maintain homeostasis in the body byregulating fluid composition and excreting metabolic waste in the form of urine. A decrease inkidney function results in the kidneys being unable to maintain the balance offluid and electrolyte metabolism, which can lead to uremia. One form of kidney therapyis hemodialysis, which is performed for 4 to 5 hours per session and is carried out2 to 3 times a week. This treatment can cause side effects, both physical and psychological. Efforts to overcome this situation, which involve theability to solve problems, are known as coping. If the coping mechanismis successful, individuals can adapt and undergo change, but conversely,if there is no change, individuals are at risk of experiencing mental disorders. This studyaims to determine the relationship between coping sources and mechanisms of coping in patients chronic with choronic kidney failure undergoing hemodialysis at the Yogyakarta PDHI Islamic Hospital. This study uses a quantitative approachwith a cross-sectional design. The sample consists of 52 chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis, selected usingaccidental sampling techniques. The instruments used in this studywere an adaptation of Stuart's (2016) coping sources questionnaire and astandard coping mechanisms questionnaire from Lazarus and Folkman, University of California, SanFrancisco, in Ferayanti's (2016) study, which was then redevelopedfor hemodialysis patients with 40statements. The results showed that most respondents with moderate coping resources preferred problem-focused coping mechanisms, while respondents with low coping resourcestended to use emotional-focused coping mechanisms. The Chi-square test results obtained a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05), whichindicates a significant relationship between coping resources andcoping mechanisms in patients with chronic kidney failure receveing hemodialysis. Thus, it can be concluded that coping resources are significantly relatedto the mechanisms of coping in patients chronic with choronic kidney failure.
