Abstrak

Hypertension is a major non-communicable disease commonly affecting the elderly and poses a risk of severe complications. Pharmacological therapy is effective but long-term use may cause side effects, thus non-pharmacological alternatives such as cucumber juice and young coconut water are required. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of cucumber juice  and  young  coconut  water on  blood  pressure  changes  among  elderly  patients with hypertension at Bukit Selabu Public Health Center in 2025. A pre-experimental design with two group pretest–posttest was applied. A total of 30 elderly respondents were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of cucumber juice group (15) and young coconut water group (15). Interventions were given for 7 consecutive days: 200 ml/day of cucumber juice and 250 ml/day  of young coconut water. Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer and analyzed using Paired Sample T-test and Independent T-test. Results showed a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure: from 150.03 to 145.69 mmHg (p=0.000) in the cucumber juice group, and from 166.84 to 131.37 mmHg (p=0.000) in the young coconut water group. In conclusion, both cucumber juice and young coconut water effectively reduced blood pressure in elderly patients, with greater reduction observed in the young coconut water group.
