Abstrak

Female detainees are individuals who are undergoing legal proceedings and have not yet received a final and legally binding court verdict. This group is vulnerable to psychological distress due to dual stigma, both as individuals in conflict with the law and as women perceived to have violated social norms. This condition may lead to self-stigma, which can affect self-esteem. This study aimed to identify the levels of self-stigma and self-esteem and to analyze the relationship between self-stigma, including each of its domains, and self-esteem among female detainees at the Class IIA Women’s Detention Center in Bandung. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design and a cross-sectional method. The study population consisted of all female detainees, and total sampling was applied, resulting in 71 respondents. The instruments used were the Self-Stigma of Individuals with Criminal Records (SSICR) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed a statistically significant relationship between overall self-stigma and self-esteem (p = 0.049), with a weak correlation strength (rho = 0.234). However, analysis of each domain of self-stigma indicated that their relationships with self-esteem were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). In conclusion, overall self-stigma has a statistically significant but weak relationship with self-esteem, whereas at the domain level, the relationships were not statistically significant among female detainees at the Class IIA Women’s Detention Center in Bandung
