Abstrak

The breastfeeding period is an important period for both mother and baby, as breast milk is the primary source of nutrition for babies. However, the breastfeeding process is often hampered by psychological factors such as anxiety. Anxiety can inhibit the let-down reflex by increasing adrenaline levels, which suppresses the release of oxytocin, thus disrupting breast milk production. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal anxiety levels and breast milk production. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was all 360 breastfeeding mothers, with a sample size of 79 people determined based on the Slovin formula. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with inclusion criteria of mothers who were willing to be respondents, mothers with children aged 0-6 months. Exclusion criteria were mothers who did not have children with congenital abnormalities that interfere with the breastfeeding process. Data were collected from May 12-25, 2025. Data were collected using the HARS (Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale) instrument to measure maternal anxiety levels and an observation sheet for breast milk production indicators. Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents experienced mild anxiety (38 people) (48.1%), and smooth breast milk production in 45 respondents (57.0%). Statistical tests showed a significant relationship between maternal anxiety levels and breast milk production with a p-value of 0.047 (<0.05). There is a significant relationship between maternal anxiety levels and breast milk production. Mothers with high levels of anxiety tend to experience obstacles in breast milk production. Suggestions for health services and health workers to improve knowledge and support for breastfeeding mothers, especially regarding stress and anxiety management during the postpartum period.
