The development of information technology has made social media a primary space for interaction among young adults. However, this phenomenon carries the risk of exposure to unhealthy food content and health misinformation, contributing to an increased prevalence of overweight and eating disorders as a result of digital stimulation without adequate literacy filters. This literature review aims to map the impact of social media exposure on the eating behavior of young adults. The research method used was a scoping literature review with a systematic search in the PubMed, EBSCOHost, and Scopus databases using the Population, Concept, Context (PCC) framework and the PRISMA-ScR approach. The selected articles were published between 2022 and 2026, were open access, written in English, and focused on individuals aged 18 to 25 years, resulting in 16 articles suitable for analysis. The review findings indicate that social media exposure affects four categories of eating behavior: changes in daily dietary patterns, the emergence of restrictive behaviors, uncontrolled eating behaviors, and an increase in emotional eating. In conclusion, nurses need to promote digital nutrition literacy so that young adults can independently filter information and avoid developing eating disorders in the future.
