Plagiarism and Retraction Policy

The Editorial Board of Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis recognizes that plagiarism is unacceptable and has therefore established the following policy which outlines specific actions (penalties) to be taken when plagiarism or similarities are identified in a manuscript submitted for publication. Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis utilizes Turnitin software as a tool for detecting text similarities in submitted and final articles ready for publication. A maximum of 20% similarity is permitted for submitted articles. If we find more than 20% similarity index, the article will be returned to the author for revision and resubmission.

Definition:

Plagiarism involves "the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."

Policy:

Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Any material taken word-for-word from another source must be clearly identified as distinct from this original text by (1) indentation, (2) the use of quotation marks, and (3) proper citation of the source.

Any text exceeding the fair use standard (defined here as more than two or three sentences or their equivalent) or graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if possible, the original author, and must be properly cited.

When plagiarism is identified, the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for reviewing the manuscript and approving appropriate measures based on the level of plagiarism detected, following these guidelines:

Levels of Plagiarism:

  • Minor: Short sections of another article are plagiarized without significant data or ideas taken from another paper.
    • Action: A warning is given to the author and a request to amend the text and properly cite the original article.
  • Intermediate: A significant portion of the article is plagiarized without proper citation to the original source.
    • Action: The submitted article is rejected, and the author is banned from submitting further articles for one year.
  • Severe: A substantial portion of the article is plagiarized involving the reproduction of original results or ideas presented in another publication.
    • Action: The article is rejected, and the author is banned from submitting further articles for five years.

It is understood that all authors are responsible for the content of the papers they submit because they all read and understand the Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis Copyright and Licensing Terms. If a penalty is imposed for plagiarism, all authors will be subject to the same penalty.

If a second case of plagiarism by the same author is identified, the decision on the action to be enforced will be made by the Editorial Board (Editor-in-Chief and Editorial members). The author will be banned from submitting articles permanently.

This policy also applies to material reproduced from other publications by the same author. If an author uses previously published text or images, the relevant paragraphs or figures must be identified and the previous publication referenced. It is understood that in review or tutorial papers, much of the material will have been previously published.

Authors must identify the source of previously published material and obtain permission from the original author and publisher. If an author submits a manuscript to Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis with significant overlap with a manuscript submitted to another journal simultaneously, and this overlap is discovered during the review process or after both papers are published, the editor of the other journal will be notified, and the case will be treated as severe plagiarism. Significant overlap means using identical or nearly identical figures and text for half a paper or more. For self-plagiarism less than half the paper but more than one-tenth of the paper, the case should be treated as intermediate plagiarism. If plagiarism is limited to the methods section, the case should be considered minor plagiarism.

If an author uses some previously published material to clarify the presentation of new results, the previously published material must be identified, and the differences for this publication must be noted. Permission to republish must be obtained from the copyright holder. In the case of a manuscript initially published in conference proceedings and then submitted for publication in Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis either in identical or expanded form, the author must identify the name of the conference proceedings and the publication date and obtain permission to republish from the copyright holder. The editor may decide not to accept the paper for publication.

However, an author is allowed to use material from unpublished presentations, including visual displays, in subsequent journal publications. In the case of a submitted publication initially published in another language, the title, date, and original publication journal must be identified by the author, and copyright must be obtained. The editor may accept such a translation for publication to bring it to the attention of a broader audience. The editor may select certain papers previously published (e.g., "historical" papers) for republication to provide a better perspective of a series of papers published in one issue of Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis. Such republication must be clearly identified, and the original publication date and journal must be provided, with permission obtained from the author(s) and publisher.

The layout editor of Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis is responsible for maintaining a list of authors penalized for plagiarism and will check that no paper submitted includes authors on this list. If a banned author is identified, the layout editor will notify the Editor-in-Chief, who will take appropriate action. This policy will be posted on the website with instructions for submitting manuscripts, and a copy will be sent to authors with the email confirmation upon initial receipt of their original manuscript.

Retraction and/or Correction:

Authors are discouraged from withdrawing submitted manuscripts once they are in the publication process (review, copy-editing, layout, etc.). During this time, Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis has invested valuable resources and time in the process.

The editors of Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis will consider retracting a publication if:

  • They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) or honest error (e.g., miscalculation or experimental error).
  • Previous findings have been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification (e.g., cases of redundant publication).
  • It constitutes plagiarism.
  • It reports unethical research.

The editors of Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis will consider issuing a statement of concern if:

  • They receive inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct by the authors.
  • There is evidence that the findings are unreliable but the authors' institution will not investigate the case.
  • They believe that an investigation into alleged misconduct related to the publication has not been, or would not be, fair and impartial or conclusive.
  • An investigation is underway but a judgment will not be available for a considerable time.

The editors of Jurnal Keuangan dan Bisnis will consider issuing a correction if:

  • A small portion of an otherwise reliable publication proves to be misleading (especially because of honest error).
  • The author/contributor list is incorrect (e.g., a deserving author has been omitted, or someone who does not meet authorship criteria has been included).

This mechanism follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), accessible at COPE Retraction Guidelines.
