PLAGIARISM AND RETRACTIONS

Plagiarism and Retraction Policy

Plagiarism Policy

The Editorial Board of Jurnal Abdimas Musi Charitas recognizes that plagiarism is unacceptable and has established the following policy to address plagiarism or similarities identified in manuscripts submitted for publication.

Definition:

Plagiarism involves "the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."

Policy:

  1. Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Any material taken word-for-word from another source must be clearly identified through (1) indentation, (2) the use of quotation marks, and (3) proper citation of the source.

  2. Text exceeding the fair use standard (defined here as more than two or three sentences or their equivalent) or graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and must be properly cited.

  3. Jurnal Abdimas Musi Charitas uses Turnitin software to detect text similarities. A maximum similarity index of 25% is permitted. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be returned to the author for revision and resubmission.

Levels of Plagiarism and Actions:

  • Minor: Short sections of another article are plagiarized without significant data or ideas taken from another paper.

    • Action: A warning is issued, requesting the author to amend the text and properly cite the original article.
  • Intermediate: A significant portion of the article is plagiarized without proper citation to the original source.

    • Action: The article is rejected, and the author is banned from submitting further articles for one year.
  • Severe: A substantial portion of the article is plagiarized involving reproduction of original results or ideas from another publication.

    • Action: The article is rejected, and the author is banned from submitting further articles for five years.

If an author is found to have committed plagiarism twice, the decision on the action to be taken will be made by the Editorial Board. The author may be permanently banned from submitting articles.

Authors must identify sources of previously published material and obtain necessary permissions. If a manuscript is substantially similar to one submitted to another journal, this will be treated as severe plagiarism.

Retraction and/or Correction Policy

The editors of Jurnal Abdimas Musi Charitas will consider retraction of a publication if:

  1. There is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable due to misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) or honest error (e.g., miscalculation).
  2. Findings have been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification.
  3. The publication constitutes plagiarism.
  4. It reports unethical research.

A statement of concern will be issued if:

  1. There is inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct.
  2. Evidence shows unreliability of findings, but the authors' institution does not investigate.
  3. The investigation into misconduct was not fair, impartial, or conclusive.
  4. An investigation is ongoing, but a judgment is not imminent.

A correction will be issued if:

  1. A small portion of an otherwise reliable publication is misleading due to honest error.
  2. The author/contributor list is incorrect (e.g., omission of a deserving author or inclusion of someone not meeting authorship criteria).

This mechanism follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), accessible at COPE Retraction Guidelines.
