Abstrak

Purpose: This community service activity aims to enhance health literacy among elementary school students through the introduction of herbal plants and to foster creative entrepreneurial skills based on local wisdom. The program is designed to support the implementation of the Sekolahe Arek Surabaya initiative by positioning herbal plants as a local advantage and as a medium for early health and entrepreneurship education.

Design Methodology Approach: A service learning approach was applied by integrating theoretical instruction, hands on practice, and reflective evaluation. The activity involved fifth and sixth grade students of YBPK Christian Elementary School, Surabaya, and focused on learning about types and benefits of herbal plants as well as practical training in producing herbal jelly candy as a simple value added product.

Findings: The results indicate an improvement in students’ understanding of herbal plants, their health benefits, and the production process of herbal jelly candy. Participants were able to follow all stages of the activity effectively and demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the program.

Practical Implications: Herbal jelly candy has the potential to serve as a healthy snack alternative for students while functioning as an educational medium to promote healthy lifestyles and basic entrepreneurial awareness. This approach can be adopted as a contextual learning model in elementary education settings.

Originality Value: This program integrates health education and creative entrepreneurship through herbal based product innovation in a practical and contextual community service activity aligned with school excellence development and local wisdom.
